Crafting on a snowy afternoon

So what have you guys been up to today. Here in the UK (I think I have some international readers 🙂 )it is snowing. Unusually for us it has actually been snowing all day and so far we have had about 3 or 4 inches. This is mega in the UK the country is about to grind to a halt and the usual debate will ensue about how we are so bad at coping with it and why should the schools shut etc. Me……..I am on holiday this week from work so I don’t care ha ha ha. I have some stuff organised that needs to be done but I fully intend on relaxing.

One of the things I wanted to do was to get back on my sewing machine as it has been so long. I have treated myself to a couple of charm packs and made this today for my eldest daughter.

Excuse the naff picture but I am really pleased with it. It took one charm pack only and makes a nice medium size quilt. I am surprised at how much I have learned today whilst I have made this. Stupid stuff like even with a scant 1/4 inch seam those seams soon add up and make a bit difference in the size you get (i hope that statement makes sense!!!). I also now realise the importance of ironing, ironing and ironing again after each step. Anyway more learning to be had now. I need to buy backing fabric and the sandwich it together with the wadding sew the 3 layers together and then bind it. I have found a useful blog entry with an excellent guide to all 3 stages just gotta find it again now and save it .

Hope you are all warm and well

Hope you are all enjoying the snow or staying at home and keeping nice and warm. I have just put the chicken on for a lovely sunday roast and am about to make a fabric pin board for downstairs.

What have you all been up to?

Sewing and Snow

OK so this is not a very exciting picture unless you are like me and find a new thing on your fantastic sewing machine each day! I was getting stressed about overlocking the edges of my sewing to help with preventing fraying when washing and did not realise that my machine had this facility. That will teach me to read the instruction manual carefully and actually it may even be worth watching the DVD I got with it as well!
Anyhoo, I can now get a really tidy and professional looking finish to my work and Sharon will be please to know that her cushion cover is finally complete!

I hope you are all well. We are currently waiting for the forecast snow to appear typical tho I have been off for a few days and I go back to work and what happens, yup it snows.
In case you had not realised I am a HUGE fan of snow. I love it. I know it is disruptive but the sheer beauty of it falling from the sky is stunning and playing out in it is simply fab! I can’t wait to see what we get.
