I have to admit that I am not sure if this blog thing is going to continue. I don’t feel the urge to keep going right now, mostly because I don’t seem to have anything to write about that may even be remotely interesting for you all to read. Writing a blog of my life and the stuff in it needs to be interesting and quite frankly it isn’t.
Whilst I contemplate the whole blog thing I may as well provide an update on the Worldwich of Sam.
Flipping heck what has happened since February…… Well the summer holidays are upon us. for once the weather seems to be holding up. I am off for the next 2 weeks but there are no plans cos hubby has changed his job and is now a taxi driver. He loves this …. a lot. Maybe my blog can be full of the stories he comes home with… and maybe not! Because of this recent change in work there has been a slight impact on the finances and going away anywhere is off the cards. Thats 2 years on the trot as it happened last year when I changed my job and cocked up the holiday plans. Anyway we are staying at home. Yesterday was a trip to Wingham Wildlife park near Canterbury. Pleasantly surprised actually. Better than Howletts Zoo to be honest and many many more of the animals were actually visible. I guess that the anti caged animals lobby may argue that this is not a good thing and quite frankly I have no desire to get into the semantics of this but we had a good few hours watching the lemurs climb over people and the meerkats standing up on their hind legs and the otters who are quite simply so fricking gorgeous.
I have bought Savannah a sewing machine and am introducing her to the world of sewing but again I am struggling with mojo and don’t know what to sew. we are trying to learn the basics like threading up the machine and winding the bobbin on etc so its early days but she has made a fully lined tote bag with my support and seemed to enjoy it a lot.
Other plans include a maybe trip to London (finances pending), Broadstairs water gala next Wednesday oh and Pokemon hunting. I am not going to apologise for being one of “the masses” playing this game as I am thoroughly enjoying it. I get out of the house gets my steps up for my Fitbit and generally stay fit. I am not running at the moment due to potential arthritis in my big toe and I don’t really know how this is going to pan out but walking is good.
Anyway going to leave you with some pictures of bags and animals until next time TTFN xx
Now I may be setting myself up to fail here but I have got a new lens for my camera for Christmas as have decided that I would try to post a photo a week throughout 2016. I have a Nikon D3200 and my new lens is a Nikkor AF-S 35mm 1:1.8G.
I have had a look around at some different sites and have drawn up the following list of challenges for me to photograph over the next 12 months. Of course it would be fab if you reading this would join in also but I am doing this for my own development in photography so if you are here simply to have a look at my journey then welcome along and enjoy the ride. Constructive feedback on my photos is also greatly received and welcomed. The date posted is the Monday and I will post my picture on the Sunday at the end of the week.

Lets see how this goes then.
I hope you have all had a very Merry Christmas and I wish you all a very happy healthy and prosperous 2016 with lots and lots of photos to remember it by.
I have a couple of days off and have not really got many plans. I should be studying but the sewing bug has bitten and I have made this today. I have an inordinate amount of stuff (read essential things … Continue reading →
Firstly I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got everything that you put on your list. I hope you are all gearing up for the New Year and all that it may bring you. It has been such a long time since I wrote and I have no idea why. Maybe my blog mojo pottered off for a little siesta, maybe I have been so busy in my life that I had little time for blogging but I am still here and still plodding along.
Summer has been and gone and I have been hard studying with my asthma module and then in October I began my Prescribing module at University. This is a challenging module and needs me to be focused and organised.
From a photography and sewing perspective not much has been happening but I keep trying to dabble and will keep on doing so cos I enjoy it.
Then all of a sudden it was Christmas. Savannah got a Kindle and is totally made up with it. We also got her a metal detector that she has asked for for the last 2 years and a walk on the beach the day after Boxing day turned up 3 pence, 2 rusted pieces of iron, 1 nut and 1 washer. I feel that there may be many evenings on the beach in the summer with this gift and lots of fun.
Imogen got so many bits and pieces for Christmas, she was going to have driving lessons but has changed her mind for the moment. She has such a busy year coming up, interviews for University are already lined up, trips to Disney with her Health and Social group, 18th Birthday in the summer. I can’t believe my little girl is nearly 18, how time flies.
Anyway enough babble for the moment, Happy New Year to you all, may you all have health, happiness and wealth.
We have had a lovely family day for Easter Sunday. We started with a lovely lie in and then an easter egg hunt (inside as it is raining today). Savannah wanted to go swimming and to my surprise the leisure centre at Maidstone was open so Tony, Imogen and Savannah went swimming whilst I watched on (I don’t really enjoy swimming much).
On our return one I got the roast dinner started and then I managed to get an hour of sewing in. In that time I made a larger pin cushion and another lanyard for me for work.
Apparently sales of these have gone through the roof because of the Great British Sewing Bee. I was not sure if I would actually ever really need one then i discovered what they can do and as I am going to try to make the step into making clothing it will come in handy. I hope very much to be able to show you some pictures of things I have done with it very soon. At the moment I am concentrating on learning how to thread it!!!!
It has also prompted a good clear up of my work area as I need to house it somewhere so it is always ready to go. May try to get some pictures later.
I hope you are all well and for the Mum’s out there I hope you all had a lovely Mothering Sunday.
Well sadly the week has not ended that well. I have the dreaded cold that my hubby and kids have been putting up with and I am feeling very sorry for myself. I do hate colds they make you feel so awful but thankfully I get them very infrequently so I guess I should count myself lucky. But anyway before the dreaded lurgey set in I did manage to get some serious sewing done and I thought I would show you it here.
The top picture is from The Quilt Room found here and took me a day to do. I have the backing and wadding just need to finish it off now. The second picture is my own design called “Shattered” and will be a quilt for my eldest daughter and the bottom picture is a cushion that I made and was taken off me by my youngest daughter.
I have had a lovely week off work and feel like I have my mojo back a bit.
So I have finally managed to get some sewing done. I finished the Raspberry Ripple quilt that I started almost a year ago and it takes pride of place on my bed. Just to give you an idea of size my bed is a super king size bed so it is quite a big quilt
I finished this quilt with free motion meandering detail and I am really pleased at how it came out. I tried to machine sew the binding and not hand finish it with some varied results and think that in the future I may stick to hand finishing that final bit but I am very pleased with this quilt.
Today I have been practicing cathedral window quilt samples. This is deceivingly easy to do but getting the squares square and ironed accurately does make a difference so is a little fiddly to begin with. I also struggled to get the window pieces accurate so when you look close up there are a few gaps but….. this is a scrummy quilt that I will be making on a bigger scale in the near future.
I have a week off now with a few things that need to be attended to and hopefully an old friend for me to catch up with and also some considerable sewing.
And I have it. I genuinely don’t know what to write about. I think this may be due, in part, to the fact that I have not been creative for a few months now and this does form the main basis of my blog posts.
So what do I do when I am not sewing? The answer is not a lot!!! Mind you I guess that is not exactly true. I am a full time nurse and a full time wife and mother so I guess I am actually a very busy lady! I am not to sure why I have not done any sewing of late, I can’t seem to settle to it. Things have been challenging at work with some changes going on which is not uncommon in the NHS and is not necessarily bad but does make life interesting. Tony has quit his job and started courier work with a more local firm which hopefully will improve our quality of life.
So i think my writers block is a symptom of what is going on in our lives at the moment and I am sure that it will pass sure enough, maybe now the clocks have gone back and the evenings are drawing in I may feel more like being creative.
It’s not all doom and gloom though I have managed to rediscover a hobby I love and that is books. Tony bought me a kindle for my birthday and I have reaquainted myself with reading in bed and I am churning out the books quite quickly now! Maybe thats something for future posts – writing book reviews!!!
Anyhoo, I am gonna log off for the night. I hope you are all well wherever you are, thank you for still being here and reading my ramblings. I will be back
