Nearly finished.

I have finally managed to get all of the blocks together and the border to complete the quilt top.
I am actually quite angry with myself cos i made a really stupid mistake with following the pattern so the design is not as crisp as it should be. In a few places the lines don’t match up but this is my first attempt at a quilt this big with a complex pattern (well complex for me!)
Now all i have to do is buy the batting and backing and finish it off.

Charm Pack Quilt

Can you believe I may actually finish something I start!!!! Gonna be a first I think LOL. I have backed the quilt I started the other day and this evening I hope to bind it and it will be finished.

Making this quilt has made me realise I am not a good finisher. I think I must get bored. I have tons of unfinished cross stitch that I started years ago. I think that if it cannot be done quickly then I lose interest. Maybe I have learned more than just how to sew today eh 🙂

The quilt so far…….

Crafting on a snowy afternoon

So what have you guys been up to today. Here in the UK (I think I have some international readers 🙂 )it is snowing. Unusually for us it has actually been snowing all day and so far we have had about 3 or 4 inches. This is mega in the UK the country is about to grind to a halt and the usual debate will ensue about how we are so bad at coping with it and why should the schools shut etc. Me……..I am on holiday this week from work so I don’t care ha ha ha. I have some stuff organised that needs to be done but I fully intend on relaxing.

One of the things I wanted to do was to get back on my sewing machine as it has been so long. I have treated myself to a couple of charm packs and made this today for my eldest daughter.

Excuse the naff picture but I am really pleased with it. It took one charm pack only and makes a nice medium size quilt. I am surprised at how much I have learned today whilst I have made this. Stupid stuff like even with a scant 1/4 inch seam those seams soon add up and make a bit difference in the size you get (i hope that statement makes sense!!!). I also now realise the importance of ironing, ironing and ironing again after each step. Anyway more learning to be had now. I need to buy backing fabric and the sandwich it together with the wadding sew the 3 layers together and then bind it. I have found a useful blog entry with an excellent guide to all 3 stages just gotta find it again now and save it .

Hope you are all warm and well

Jack O’Lantern Halloween Pumpkin Head

OK so maybe I was a bit premature about Christmas the other day especially as Halloween comes first!
I have had some ideas for Halloween decorations and am busy making templates for my felt designs.
I thought I would have a look around Flickr for pictures of pumpkins which are iconic of Halloween and found this excellent sculpture by David Boardman. I may just try my hand at some pumpkin carving this year.
Have you any plans for Halloween crafts?

And so our minds turn to…….

…….Christmas!!!! I know I know the kids have only just gone back to school and already the dreaded C word has been uttered but you know it will be upon us in the blink of an eye and we will wonder how time got away with us.

I have been browsing around the internet looking at Christmas decorations and found this fab tutorial and was reminded of my mum making these when I was a kid. Click here to go to the tutorial (apologies for the huge picture must get my head round getting pictures onto my blog!!)

Has anyone else started thinking about Christmas yet or am I alone? My iPhone reliably informs me that we only have 113 sleeps to go eeek!

Prize draw

Thank you so much, I finally reached the 6000 views mark and I did promise a prize draw. So who wants one then? Oh…alright then here we go.

The prize is one of my cute little owls. It will be the smaller size owl (shown above) and in material of my choosing but you can select a colour theme from blue, pink or green. All you have to do is leave me a comment below telling me how you spent your Easter and I will enter your name into the hat. The winning name will be drawn on Monday evening and I will announce it on here.

As the famous saying goes you gotta be in it to win it. Good luck to you all.

Right excuse the bad light it is dark outside and artificial light is really naff for taking pictures in…anyhoo….meet Peri. She is Obie’s little sister and she is very tired.
The iPod Touch is so you can judge their size. Aren’t they cute. I have really enjoyed making these, i think my house may be about to be over run by owls. Wonder what my hubby will make of that LOL
